Description
Java Tea — A Traditional Southeast Asian Botanical
Discover the distinctive botanical character of Java Tea (Orthosiphon aristatus), a traditional Southeast Asian herb also widely known as Cat’s Whiskers and Kumis Kucing.
Recognised for its distinctive flowers with long, whisker-like stamens, Orthosiphon aristatus has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations throughout Southeast Asia. Its leaves have traditionally been prepared as an herbal infusion, giving rise to the familiar name Java Tea.
At Krittiya Garden, we cultivate and carefully process this botanical in Thailand, transforming the harvested leaves into convenient tea bags designed to make this traditional herbal infusion part of modern everyday life.
What Does Java Tea Taste Like?
Java Tea has a naturally herbaceous, earthy and gently bitter botanical character.
Its distinctive flavour reflects the plant itself, without the need for added colours or flavourings.
Enjoy it warm as part of a quiet daily tea ritual, or prepare it as a refreshing iced herbal infusion.
From Traditional Knowledge to Modern Botanical Wellness
Java Tea has been part of traditional herbal practices across Southeast Asia for generations.
Modern scientific research has also investigated the phytochemical composition of Orthosiphon aristatus. Studies have identified naturally occurring compounds including polyphenols, terpenoids and sterols, with rosmarinic acid among the notable compounds reported in the plant.
At Krittiya Garden, we believe traditional botanical knowledge should be communicated responsibly. Scientific investigation of a plant or its extracts does not mean that every commercial herbal tea has been clinically demonstrated to treat disease.
Our Java Tea is therefore presented as a traditional herbal beverage and botanical wellness product — not as a medicine.
